A study published in the prestigious journal The Lancet showed that the HPV quadrivalent human papilloma vaccine administered to 1910 women between 24 and 45 years not previously infected with the virus has a 90% efficacy against infection and diseases caused by four low-risk viral types (6 and 11) and high risk (16 and 18) and 83% for infections related to high-risk strains (16 and 18). The efficacy in women already infected is reduced to one third.
