I found myself in a strange situation after upgrading to 10.2.0.5 two databases: one page of Enterprise Manager, the Top Activity, it would take 5 minutes to be displayed, in another case, the pages of ASM were unreachable, as sometimes happens.
The first case was indeed unusual: no CPU load, no strange query, nessuna attività a disco.
È risultato dal log applicativo che era colpa di un timeout di una connessione SSL alla porta di default di EM, nel file emoms.properties. Il mio EM era infatti configurato in http, mentre l'aggiornamento riconfigura EM in https, ma a quanto pare scrive qualcosa di irregolare nel file (EMD_URL in maiuscolo?), in modo che, riconfigurando EM in http, la linea emd_url rimane con un URL https.
L'effetto collaterale è stato di risolvere anche il secondo problema, che ha richiesto anche il riavvio dell'agente sul secondo nodo del cluster.

Oracle sta finalmente rivelando in pratica come sarà lo sviluppo di Solaris.

Great news for Oracle patchset.
Beginning patchset 11.2.0.2, the patchset will complete installations of the software, therefore, for new installations, will no longer need to install the basic software (11.2.0.1) patchset to download and apply .
The patchset, huge (4.7 GB), is in fact composed of 7 zip file: the first two for the database (including RAC), then Grid, Client, Gateways, Examples and uninstaller, ending each in their respective directories.
For existing installations, the big news is the ' out-of-place upgrade , recommended over the traditional in-place upgrade: the new version of the software is installed in a new ORACLE_HOME while maintaining the old one, and finally installing the database is migrated to the new version. This has two main advantages:
The installer can now download patch for themselves and directly in the database during installation, removing all the upgrade issues at this time.

Btrfs is now included in the Linux kernel from version 2.6.30, but is still in development and is not eligible for entry into production.
How ZFS, Btrfs focuses on overcoming all the limitations of traditional file systems, such as the maximum size of file and file system, manageability, and scalability with the size of the storage, security and reliability and I / O.

All'inizio di luglio ho ricevuto una newsletter Oracle che parlava dei nuovi storage basati su hardware Sun.
Al momento non ho prestato molta attenzione all'annuncio, considerando che era abbastanza ovvio che la produzione di server Sun venisse mantenuta o ampliata. Confesso di avere trascurato la parola storage .
Arriverò anche per ultimo a rendermi conto di quanto sta accadendo per le tecnologie Sun in casa Oracle, ma For months we look forward to the "next" release of OpenSolaris to try, even directly use, the amazing new features of ZFS, and nothing moves.

Come da titolo di questo post, è uscito da qualche giorno il patch set 10.2.0.5, l'ultimo patch set per Oracle 10gR2, per ora disponibile solo per Linux 32 e 64 bit.

Dopo una lunga pausa invernale senza rilevanti novità da scrivere sul blog, oggi mi sono imbattuto in una novità poco gradita: Oracle ha modificato i termini di licenza di Solaris 10 , forcing users to sign a support contract in order to use the software .
For me it's a bit 'a low blow: Even if OpenSolaris is free and freely usable, Solaris 10 was, in my opinion, the only alternative to the Linux platform and much more stable overall.
OpenSolaris is unusable for installing Oracle, first because it is completely unsupported and also because of many missing packages required during installation and not easily replaceable.
OpenSolaris is also much more oriented to the desktop, not the server.
Of course, it is likely that support will not be an unbearable cost to businesses of all size, but is still a possible reason for lack of preference over other platforms.
As I have provided a broad outline, is destined to become the Solaris operating system in elite Oracle server, while Linux is for the market of medium-low. But this could have repercussions on OpenSolaris and the community in general free, we'll see.
